Please pray for us!

Here are some specific needs:

*************

Please pray for Brett and Bronwyn and Craig and Suzy as they plan for and begin their thru-hikes.  Specifically, please pray that they will be a light to hikers as they glorify God.

*************

Pray for the A.T. Servant's Board of Directors and the Support Teams of the Trail Chaplains as they perform the administrative tasks of the ministry.

*************

Please pray that the 2006 Trail Days will be an even bigger success than last year. Pray that plans will come together smoothly and that hikers will see unity in Christ's Church body.

*************

As A.T. Servants grows, so does our yearly budget. Please pray that God continues to provide our financial support.

************* Pray that thru- hikers will connect the beauty of the creation around them with the one, true Creator.

*************

Pray that the deeds of Trail Angels will be seen by thru-hikers as the good deeds of the church and Christians and not the individual Trail Angel.

Jonathan “Vapor” Carter Joins

A.T. Servants’ Board of Directors

During his recent thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, Jonathan “Vapor” Carter exemplified what God intended of Appalachian Trail Servants’ Trail Chaplains.  A true servant, Jonathan continually puts others' needs and desires above his own.  For this reason, the Board of Directors of Appalachian Trail Servants extended the offer for Jonathan to join the Board of Directors and he accepted.  Jonathan brings trail experience, a love for hikers, marketing knowledge, and, most importantly, a passion for and devotion to Christ to this ministry.

A.T. Servants 2005 Year-End Recap

In 2005, God set the bar high for subsequent years in ministry.  He accomplished great things on the A.T. through Appalachian Trail Servants.

On March 12, we sent out our first Trail Chaplain, Jonathan “Vapor” Carter, who set a perfect example of what a Trail Chaplain should be like.  It was obvious that every day he set out purposing to glorify God.  On September 14, Vapor finished his journey thus setting a great precedent for all future Trail Chaplains.

In 2005, A.T. Servants stepped up our Trail Angel activities and God definitely blessed our increased efforts.  Craig and Suzy led 16 groups of Christian organizations to help almost 700 hikers in 8 locations in 4 states.  Craig became so well known to the Appalachian Trail Community, that hikers began helping “Pastor Craig” unload and set up when they saw him drive up to a gap!  Each of these hikers knew that we were on the trail because we want them to know that Jesus loves them.  Most importantly, this year through our Trail Angeling, 5 hikers lives have been eternally changed by Jesus Christ!

We also worked hard to begin planning for 2006.  Brett and Bronwyn Stamps are working hard to take on roles as 2006 Trail Chaplains as are Craig and Suzy.  Planning for the 2006 Trail Days started almost immediately after the 2005 Trail Days ended.

Since the beginning of this ministry, many people have been praying that both Craig and Suzy would be able to both work full-time in this endeavor.  In August of 2005, this prayer was answered.  Just before their hike on the Long Trail in Vermont, Suzy left her corporate job in order to work in ministry alongside Craig.  This has enabled them to travel more and even to attempt a thru-hike this Spring.

In short, we are amazed by what God can do through this small organization.  Thank you to everyone who prayed for us, who volunteered, who gave of their finances.  We know that God will continue to multiply your efforts.

2006 Trail Chaplains Plan for their Thru-Hike

During the weekend of January 28, Craig and Suzy met with Brett and Bronwyn Stamps in Memphis, Tennessee for a Trail Chaplain Training Session.  While there, they discussed physical preparation, the planning for the actual trip (mail drops, needed gear, etc), and, most importantly, they spent nearly four hours talking about spiritual preparation.  One thing that the meeting confirmed was that the time for preparation is quickly dwindling away.  Soon, both couples will be out on the trail, fulfilling God’s call for them to be a servant to hikers.

Craig and Suzy plan to leave on March 18 from Amicalola Falls State Park.   God has faithfully been providing their support, and, as of the end of January, about 75% of the needed support for their thru-hike has been raised.  God has also been faithfully providing spiritual preparation for the hike as well.  He has provided sermons, talks, and books that have provided insights to His Word.  Please continue to pray for them as they continue preparing for this 6-month journey.

Brett and Bronwyn Stamps plan to leave on April 1 from Amicalola Falls State Park as well.  According to Brett, their financial support is also well underway and they are pursuing several gear sponsorships.  They have a wonderful prayer support team that is a great support to them.  Please join this team of prayer warriors in praying for Brett and Bronwyn’s continued preparation.

A.T. Servants Attends the Southern Ruck

During a snowy weekend at the Nantahala Outdoor Center near Bryson City, North Carolina an unusual group of people congregated in a dining hall.  From the looks of this group, one would never guess the reason for the gathering.  Middle-aged people and those fresh out of college share a table, discussing their passion: long-distance hiking.  Wild stories of hikes past intermingle with advise to those who are planning their own first long distance excursion.  Experienced hikers quickly welcomed those new to the group, patiently listening to their limited stories and offering time-tested advice.

A.T. Servants was represented by three board members--Craig Miles, Suzy Miles, and Jonathan Carter.  They enjoyed the fellowship with each other as well as greeting old hiking friends and getting to know new ones.  Craig and Suzy gained valuable advise for their upcoming thru-hike while Jonathan reminisced over his newly completed one.
